Fifth
Annual
Egg Hunt Fourteen Years BBQ This Weekend BBQ Update |
BBQ Update - It was perhaps the coldest BBQ event ever held. It was defiantly the coldest we have ever participated in. With 35 mile an hour winds and snow accumulating, we stood for 4 hours selling burgers for the shelter. We were working on the sympathy burger sales. Despite the discomfort my incredible team managed to sell over 60 burgers, and do so with a smile on their face. Many supporters attended to offer words of support and many came to meet the pets also on display. Susie a JRT cattle dog came for a meet and greet and won everyone over with her charming personality, and found herself a fantastic home ... this made the day worth while if nothing else. Beau our Jersey Wooly rabbit enjoyed cuddles with children and ended up in a photo shoot for the newspaper, this selling the shelter small animal adoption idea to readers I hope. Parts crossed he will soon also find a home and his buddy who is named “Buddy”. Apr 16,
2013 Just a letter to let you know of the passing of beloved dog Brandy that we picked up at your shelter in July 2001. She brought us many years of joy and has left us truly broken hearted.
We wanted you to know
that she had a loving life from the time you gave her to us. Thank You,

2013 BBQ This Weekend - For OSAS it brings running dogs, cats in heat and wandering. It brings Christmas puppies now too big to be easy keepers, it brings Easter Bunnies who were not thought through. It brings puppies and kittens and wildlife calls. April showers bring muddy paws, and wet dog smells, but it also brings a whole lot more calls. Our cages will fill, as will our work load, and stress load, and sadly our account will empty. Thankfully, gone are the frostbite and starving calls, (we pray anyway) and now comes the “I have no time for this, and I have to many” calls instead. As we are now prepared for this influx and bracing to do what we do to get through it. This Saturday we will be thinking summer!! With that comes our charity
BBQ at Pet Valu in Owen Sound. Join us as we think summer and sunshine while we raise funds to get us through the springtime. The
BBQ will run from 11am to 4pm. See you there. Apr 2,
2013 Fourteen Years - April 1st marked our 14th year in operations at OSAS ... no joke. It is difficult to imagine so much time could have passed, however in looking back many of our first adoptions have now passed, and it seems we have been there a dogs life. We have triumphed over many heartaches and luckily have celebrated many successes. Fortunately for my sanity more successes have happened. Owen Sound Animal Shelter continues to operate as it has always done with policies in place to do what's best for people in need as well as their pets, to make a difference in the lives of the homeless and to give it our all to make persons proud. It is after all only with your support we can do the job we do, and for that we thank you. We have struggled to make changes, to serve the community and to help those that others would have given up on. Many like Ivory, Broker, Forrest, Buddy, Hush, Will, Carebear, Bo, Bruno, Grace, Turtle, Parker, Llyle, and Moses, live the life now that they deserve after coming close to death, remain in my heart always. I remember all of them. And, of course, Price...
Thousands have come through our doors and into my heart. Thank you to each of you who have adopted and made my heart happy in knowing my job has not been in vain. As I cross my parts for continued success, I have faith all will be well thanks to all of you. Apr 1,
2013 Fifth Annual Egg Hunt - Thank you, thank you, thank you! Our fifth annual egg hunt was our best yet, and whether it was the great weather, the later start time, or just luck, I am thrilled with the success. There was an unbelievable number of children with bags of chocolate, painted faces, balloon hats on heads and bellies full of cup cakes and caramel apples. There were smiles on everyone's faces, not just the 820 that had pictures taken. Totals are not in yet, but I'm certain we have doubled totals in the past! This meaning we can continue to do what we do with thanks to those who attended, and those who helped make it possible. Thank you to my team who slaved away making baked goods, who then dealt with crowds to sell them. Thank you to the face painters who tackled the job nobody else wanted. Thank you to AandAphotohraphy for their contributions in making smiles happen. Thank you to Hellaballoo for the awesome balloon art, the reptile guy for the entertainment, New Orleans pizza for sponsoring and of course the mix once again for the partnership. I appreciate and thank all of you for your continued support. You make the job easier, and a whole lot better. We could not do it without you. COMMENT:
