Extending the Dome's Walls
The first of the hexagon panels were then passed by hand
up to the scaffold crew, supported by temporary struts from the
floor, and bolted in place.
Holding the hexagon panel up between the two adjacent
pentagon sections looked tricky, but the dome raising supervisor,
Jack Lydick showed us the easy way to support it on lever arms placed
across the scaffold platform. This ring acted to tension the panels
together.
Then, once the tension ring was complete all around the
dome, the higher level hexagon panels were passed up and bolted into
place.
