Background Story on Macey as written by Renee...
Macey was a two year old female long-haired orange and beautiful cat. We took a report about a dead cat and went on patrol to remove the body. When we arrived, we found a cat completely covered with snow and still alive. But barely. On closer examination her ears were frozen to the point that they had turned black and this kitty was so thin she looked like she had already died. I could see every bone in her body and her hair had icicles all through it. Her feet were frozen to the ice she was laying on. I did not think she would make it through the night. We ran to the truck and grabbed blankets to immediately warm her up and drove to the Shelter. When we took her into the Shelter we gave her fluids and antibiotics. When we finally went home that night we all thought this was going to be her last night on earth. She made it through that night and we still do not know how. Her ears had been so badly frost bitten that the tops of them fell off. When that happened, the ears became infected and we treated them. Macey was not feeling very good and could not eat properly so we had to hand feed her until she was better. Macey is now feeling much better. Macey looks a little different than other kitties, but the staff at the Shelter all love her very much and we are hoping to have her spayed and then put her up for adoption here at the Owen Sound Animal Shelter. UPDATE... May 15th, 2005
Macey was spayed this past Wednesday, thanks to the children from Beavercrest School and their Pennies for Puppies and Coins for Kittens drive. Macey came back to the Shelter on Thursday and was adopted on Friday. Excellent!! I am so pleased with her adoption! A big thank you to the children at Beavercrest for all their help. Renee
