Hi Renee & Owen Sound Animal Shelter Staff

Just thought I’d send you an update on Maggie. She is amazing! We love having her here with us.

That must have been very stressful for Maggie on Saturday; being taken away in a car by people she’s never met before and driving for many hours. But she was very good in the car and made a nice travel companion.

Sunday we took her for a walk in the McCarthy Woods. Well….Phil and I did the walking, Maggie was absolutely flying. It’s a real joy to see her flying through the woods and almost vertical when she jumps a downed tree. She has all the shepherd traits and instincts; even though we hardly knew each other, she “herded” us nicely and responds well to being called back into view.

I love having a walking companion and the woods and fields are a real winter wonderland this time of year. We have a lot more snow here than in Owen Sound . We have been to the woods each day since Maggie got here and that looks like it will be our morning routine.

When Phil and I took Maggie for a brief walk in Owen Sound at your shelter, she was pretty strong on the leash and barking a lot. Now, with some off-leash under her belt, I can’t say that I notice her pulling on the leash when we take a regular on-leash walk around the block. Her barking is also much diminished. She “talks” when you’d expect her to and can get herself under control when I ask her to. In other words, her anxiety issues are starting to soften.

We had an appointment with Dr. Tyre at the Alta Vista Animal Hospital yesterday. Maggie has some dental issues that we can take care of in the spring when she really settles in and has a stronger bond with Phil and me. Other than that she is in good condition. The clouds in her eyes are the normal age issue and don’t appear to be hindering her enjoyment of life. She’s had all the necessary shots now.

Again, thank you so much for Maggie. She is a real joy to walk with and share our lives.
